I used to sing a lot, when I was younger - my voice has suffered from lack of practice over the years, so I have been a bit self-conscious about singing when other people are around...
Freja, though, seems to call out the song in me, and I find myself singing to her a lot over the course of these early days...
I've found a couple of great albums of kid songs that are fun for both baby and parents. But in her first few days of life, sleep-deprived and focused on getting the hang of nursing her - and without an official name for her - calling her "honey pie" as an endearment brought a funny song to me:
Sung to the Beatles tune, "Honey Pie:"
Sleep-deprived nursing song for baby girl
honey pie
it's time to be wake-y
it's not time to be take-y
another nap
honey pie
it's time to be drink-y
don't you start to be think-y
about going to sleep
you've become a champion on the nursing scene
life is sweeter now than it has ever been
[hum verse]
you have come among us as a tiny glow
now we three will live and love and help you grow
honey pie
we are making you milk-y
cause you're soft and silky
you're my favorite girl
And she is my favorite girl...
